A 72andSunny Holiday with a Vibrant Mexican Twist

by EY on December 16, 2012

When we think of the holidays, our thoughts often turn to that of a traditional Winter Wonderland - fluffy white snow drifts surrounding spruce trees decorated in rich reds, gold and green. Or perhaps its crisp blues and white with silver accents that dance in our heads as the quintessential definition of the holidays.  But leave it to the innovative minds of 72andSunny, the genius advertising firm behind the brilliant campaigns of SamsungSonosCall of Duty: Black Ops and more, to turn a traditional holiday theme into a colorful take on the vibrancy and ingenuity of Mexico City. Inspired by its budding design and creative culture, 72andSunny looked to the talented event team of Fresh Events and La Petite Gardenia‘s designers to create a holiday celebration that channeled the heart and creative soul of Distrito Federal. Not a single detail was missed and each a direct link to the festive Mexican theme that inspired the event, beginning with it’s gorgeous venue, Vibiana.

The historical landmark and former cathedral set the tone, housing over 2000 elephant, philodendron xanadu king and calathea peacock leaves in its alter alone. For an added pop of tradition and color, orange hued Ferncliff Fuego Dahlias covered the alter steps and surrounded rows of candle filled vases – highlighting the former house of worship’s history as well as paying homage to the tradition of Dia de los Muertos. Each table’s centerpiece consisted of three imaginative and vibrant looks – all carefully constructed to channel the soul of Mexico while still capturing the heart of a modern holiday. Arrangements of Elephant ears floating atop tall fluted cylindrical vases, standing over 4ft tall in height, were emphasized by glowing mercury glass votives below and reminiscent of the stunning green filled alter. For a touch of modern, sterling silver candelabras were lit between matching julep cups filled with mini green hydrangeas, orange dahlias and red pincushions and adorned alternating tables. Upon entering the cathedral, guests were greeted with imaginative and incredibly vibrant tablescapes that set the lively Mexican theme instantly.

Created with orange and red tipped roses, mini green hydrangea, bright yellow mini calla lilies, the colorful mix continued with the addition of peach spray roses and inventive red and yellow pincushions with manipulated horse tail; all of which were elegantly wrapped in calathea peacock leaves. Vibiana was lit in shades of turquoise & amber and housed colorful and imaginative images of Mexico to complete the look. The end result was a theme that instantly transported guests from the historical landmark of Los Angeles directly into the vivacious and energetic streets of Distrito Federal.  This incredibly fresh and colorfully spirited take on the traditional holiday party was as breathtakingly beautiful as it was inventive. We’d like to thank the brilliant Ada Chan, coordinator for Fresh Events, and the lovely Nicole Kingston of Vibiana for their incredible dedication to this inspired event, as well as the event staff of 72andSunny for the highly creative theme. From all of us at La Petite Gardenia, we wish you a very happy holiday and a prosperous new year!
